a b o u t

at this point in my life, i work with images and words and all points between.

ALXSw studied painting and photography at several universities including WOSC, Monmouth, OR. She is a master’s graduate of NAU, AZ (2002) and U of MT (2005). West’s painting (Minimalist) is represented in Central Oregon by Bend Independent Contemporary Art (BICA).

ALXSw was one of US artists at the 2009 Biennale de’l Arte Contemponarea, Florence, Italy, Dec 5 – 13, 2009. She recived a President's Award. Other current exhibits include the juried b/w photography exhibit at this fall’s Carmel Art and Film Festival, CA.She has been selected for a featured photographer in ARTWORKS, Spring 2010 issue. Her photograph "Stairs" from her Water Tower Series, was nominated for a B/W Spider Award in the architecture category. West recently won several awards in the American Art Awards in photography and minimalist painting categories.

ALXSw is a freelance creative and also works in the federal Incident Management System in Information/ PR.She is also an accomplshed writer and a student of multimedia (private study) .

ALXSw is the registered tradename for Alexis West. West advises there are many artists with the same name, including one is Russia, so uses a legal tradename to distinguish her work. By phonetically sounding her tradename, one easily arrives at her full name, not to mention, it’s a great collection of consonants.

version 2: i've studied 2D art at a number of universities/colleges and completed my Masters in Communication Arts recently. During completion of my Masters in Criminal Justice (earlier), I chose ethnographic projects for my master's projects. I am fascinated with ethnography as a blend of my passions for writing, sociology, and photography.

publishings include work for Crime, Media, and Culture (UK-photography); Les Cashiers de la Femme, Toronto U, (Toronto, CAN-photodoc); Source Weekly (Bend, OR-writing and images); The Strange Fruit, (Seattle, WA -non-fiction); Bloodroot (poetry ).

as a painter, i work large format, contemporary / color field paintings. i have been painting a long time, but have only kept my paintings in the last several years. i create in series, taking a vision into several incarnations and visual concoctions. my exhibit page shows the current shows i've participated in locally. frankly, I do not think of myself as a regional artist because I travel and have lived in so many places. okay, how does american artist work?

as a photographer, both still imagery and video work is ongoing. i tend to notice the abstract. i've been photographing since I was given my first kodak as a kid. i still prefer SLR's and 100 ASA film, but use digital since the local lab closed. it's all good. and having purchased the nikon D700, i would have to say its not just all good, it's way into fantastic.
